I don't think the point was sympathy for the queen herself, it was more sympathy for Colt who is one of the few decent ants, and also the fact that the queen dying leads to a disaster with the other ants spreading and doing whatever they want and breeding with other races, so it's a possible apocalypse at hand given how much damage only a single ant colony made.

Humans trying to save the chimera ant queen is a weird sight and they wouldn't actually do it. But it makes sense because if she dies the others will spread out.
